story so far:
2 months ago I bought 4 brevis shellies, 2m 2f. Two of them were a pair in the shop and subsequently when they were in a 10g tank for about 3 weeks, but when I moved them into a 29g tank to give them more space, the female that was paired decided to go and pair up with the other male, leaving the larger male single. The smaller female was then getting picked on by all the other fish, so i thought it would be a good idea to add another female or two to divert some of the aggression away from the smaller female. There are no other fish in the tank, plenty of sight breaks provided by rocks and plants.
So today I went to a couple of LFS, the first one had some gorgeous looking brevis but they were very small and we were unable to sex them. Didn't want to end up with more males. The second shop- where i got the original fish- had a really nice looking adult female so i bought her. Got her in the tank and the large male wont let her come lower than half way down the tank and is chasing her all over. I have rearranged the rocks in the tank to break up the territories but it didn't seem to make any difference. Not sure what to do now, the new fish has been in there about 4 hours and they have calmed down a little bit but i'm worried the big male will continue bullying her.
On the plus side the small female is out and about and being ignored by everyone.
I have filled up the 10g and its getting up to temperature now, so i'm thinking maybe remove him for a few days to let her settle then reintroduce him?
