Hi, guys, my tank had the ICH attack and I lost all the fish :(

Now, I am thinking to purchase some other fish, but I really want to keep the current benefitial bacteria so I don't want to clean up the whole tank.

I read through some topics here and know that the ICH parasite will be dead if not able to get on a fish within 24 hours, does it mean that if I leave the tank without any fish, all the ICH parasite will be gone?

If the above is not ture, then, is there a fast way to get rid of the ICH without affecting too much of the benefitial bacteria?

Thanks a million,
Peter

Hi...I think if you run the tank at increased temp for 2-3 days 85 degrees) after the last fish died, you should be OK. HOWEVER, any new fish may potentially develop ich. Introducing any new fish will always run that risk. Hence, the benefit of quarantine tanks. Good luck. SH

I agree with steelhealr's post. :) However, no matter if you quarantine the fish or not, it doesn't really matter. Bacteria and Spores of disease inhabit the fish's water all the time. They only affect the fish when the fish becomes stressed or weakened.

A higher temperature is the only way you can get rid of ich, really. The medicine or chemicals don't do anything until the ich is free-swimming.

Yes, I have raised the temp and I'll try to keep my tank water as good as possible for some healthy fishes.

Thanks again, guys.

Peter
