I originally had two males rams, one kept chasing the other. So I returned one and got a female ram. She has a big pink spot on both sides on her belly. For 2 weeks the male and her have been fine swimming together, but not all the time. Then all of the sudden the male is now chasing the female. Just like he used to chase the male before her. Whats the deal? Time for another female?

Males and females are not necessarily compatible. I read a convincing artical by a long time breeder that suggest a theory in which the spawning cycles must be compatible for many fish or they simply won't tolerate each other. The best way to achieve a pair is usually to give the male a choice of females.

i have no idea if they bred, there are so many hiding spots they could have laid eggs. I cant see everything under the rocks unless I lift it up which I don't want.

But suddenly today he stopped chasing her, now they seem friendly together. Maybe he was having a bad day?

I plan on poppin in two other females in there, but the LFS was out currently.

So he is supposed to pick one of the three? How will I know who he likes the best? I will then return the other two.

Thanks, B)

They'll usually chase after the remaining two in tandem, however it sounds like it's worth holding off an seeing how your two do, they just might need some time.
