Saw them in the lfs the other day, not for the first time, but it suddenly struck me how cool-looking they are. Looked them up in Schliewen: grow to 2.75 inches, keep in pairs, cavity brooders, good water movement, 24-28 C, will eat high fibre dry food and crustaceans, can cope with a variety of water parameters.

Has anyone got more to offer?

What are they like with other fish? How active are they? Do they in fact eat flakes or bloodworms? Do they breed in the tank? errr.. are they nice?

Paint me the picture!

Hi, are you taliking about steatocranus? There are a couple of kinds. I'm going to get steatocranus causarus (sp?) they are shorter bodied than s.tinnanti, but both kinds kind of wiggle their whole bodies when they move, really sweet  . They are from rivers so are supposed to like quite fast moving water. They do get on in certain communities, look them up on google there are quite a few fish that they are compatible with. They are bottom dwellers, but the babies venture up more to feed. LOvely fish, are you going to get some, post some pics if you do. I will when I eventually get them :good:

Buffalo head females will reach 4" but males will reach upwards of 6", when spawning they dont play well with others and are often very abusive to their females.

Yeah let her know where her place is make her know whos boss  ooooooopps thinking out loud again

Hmmm... yes, what am I talking about? Some kind of steatocranus certainly, but they didn't quite resemble either casuarius or tinnanti (flicks through Baensch). They looked more like Schliewen's picture of ubanguiensis, but perhaps they were the casuarius.
