How many African dwarf frogs can be safely kept in a 10 gallon tank with a betta? I was hoping that several would be fine, since I've watched them at the pet stores and they are funny to see in groups (the way they all cram together in one corner or in a hiding spot is funny).

Umm... I'm just wondering why you might have this under the betta and gouramis forum do you have other fish in the tank that are not mentioned? Perhapes this would be better answer in Topical Chit Chat or Oddballs as you haven't had a responce as of yet.

why would it belong somewhere else...

they have a betta and are wondering how many ADFs would be compatible with their betta

I'll guess 3 or 4. I know some people keep them in jars around here so I would assume at least 4 could live quite well in a 10 gallon. As for the betta...that all depends on him, he may be mellow or he may hate frogs. Have a back up plan in case it doesn't work.

i would say 4 as well. Just make sure there are loads of hiding places for the tiny guys. and make sure to put something over the filter intake as their tiny little legs can get stuck. Also as I am sure you already know....make sure their african dwarf frogs and not clawed or else your betta will end up being lunch once they grow a little!

My apologies I read this late last night when I was half asleep and didn't notice the mention of betta in the post. I was rather confused to say the least

I have a betta and a ADF in the same tank and they are fine together. I'd say you could have 5 ADF's with your betta. There's my .02. :D

Hi doiser2 :)

You could have 4 of the little guys, easily, in a 10 gallon tank even with a betta in there as well. They are so small and eat so little that they are very little trouble to keep.

One of the most important things is to keep the tank entirely covered, because they are jumpers and can escape through very small spaces. If you have a filter, be sure that it cannot suck them into it.

There is a link in my signature that will take you to a thread with lots of good information about them. Then, why not start a thread in the Invertebrates and Amphibians forum to get answers to any questions you might have.

They are lots of fun to keep and I think you will be happy with them!. :D

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I'll probably try to start out with just one frog, to make sure that the betta won't have trouble with them, then add more.

Of course, this is still kind of far away from actually being done(I need gravel and a filter and a lid still). I don't have money right now like I thought I would because I was planning on working for my grandpa this week, but the rain that's been around here recently pretty much screws that plan up.

I would try at least two at first. You don't want him to feel lonely and terrified of the betta.

Hi I keep 4 african dwarf frogs with one of my bettas in an 8 gallon, they all get along fine but the ADF's do hide a lot, it's so funny when you cant see one and then suddenly one zipps up to the top for air and then straight back down again :D :D If you do get them you will love them
