Hi, i had 3 Red Tailed Black Sharks, all doing fine for a week with 6 ADFs, then on Saturday night, a frog hit a shark. The shark then rolled onto its side and drifted about and his tail turned grey. i put him in a breeding net to stop the other fish picking at him. The next day he was swimming again but now with his fins clamped so i got some liquisil and tonic salt. I put that in, and his fins opened up again about an hour later and he looked fine and his tail came back to red. Then on Tuesday, he just sank to the bottom on his side again, and he wasnt moving much. i left him in the breeding net over night and got some Melafix, added that today after 30% water change, and about 20 mins later he was dead. After an hour my gf noticed another shark on his side so i put him in the net trying desperately to find out whats wrong, then while watching the last remaining shark, she shouted that a frog just hit the other shark, i looked round and saw the shark float out from where the frog and shark were, and float to the surface stone dead, less than 10 seconds after we saw him darting about like normal.

The 2nd one i put into the breeding net went from jet black to grey-white, with a gold face in the space of about 3 minutes, and he isnt doing much.

Anybody heard of this before? and any idea what i can do about it?

My water stats are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 40 nitrates.

I have:
5 honey gouramis
10 neon tetras
1 half dead RTBS
6 african dwarf frogs
5 zebra loaches

Thanks
Ash

How many gallons is the tank.
Red tailed sharks don't gt on with there own kind should only keep one as there aggressive.
If the frog did bang into the sharks which I find odd could of damaged there swiim bladder.

the tank is 40 gallons. The frog didnt just bash into it, the frogs kick the sharks all 3 sharks were hit in the face, one died instantly, the first took 3-4 days and the last is still alive but barely. I dont know how to treat him because theres nothing obviously wrong with him.

Are they definately dwarf frogs and not clawed frogs? If they are clawed frogs and a good size / the sharks were only small then it's possible they may have been trying to eat them. The way to tell is look at the front legs, do they have webbing between their toes? If they do then they are dwarfs if not you have clawed and they will most likely try to eat some of your other fish.

Only other thing i can think is as wilder said rtbs don't get on so perhaps they killed each other and it just appeared that the frogs did it.

clawed frogs was my first suspicion but theyre definately dwarf, all have webbed feet. The sharks got on fine, all the fish and frogs are young, the frogs are about 15mm and sharks were about 45mm long. They occasionally chased eachother about but mostly kept their distance. The first shark was at one end where he always hangs about, and the other 2 at the other end, and he was annoying a frog so the frog kicked him in the head and he just went wonky, the other 2 sharks were nowhere near him. the 2nd shark to go was again far apart from the other shark, only a frog next to him and he did the exact same thing, fell to one side and drifted about. That shark was in the breeding net and the other was perfectly fine and healthy swimming about by himself, stopped under an arch and was annoying the frog, the frog pecked at his face (which i must have missed by like a split second) i looked at him, saw him fall to one side and he just floated right out dead. theres no way the sharks killed eachother, they were just too spread out. The 2nd fish that is now in the breeding net has regained most of his black colour but still slightly faded.

Any idea what i could do to try to save the one in the breeding net?

Thanks
Ash

The fish could of already been ill and thats why the frogs are attacking them.
Hows the red tailed shark now.

he looks all better but im keeping him in the breeding net for now, im worried about letting him back out in case the frogs get him

He will be stressed in the net, maybe ask the lfs if they will take him back.

Well i bit the bullet and released him back into the tank yesterday and he seems much happier. He isnt darting about like he used to but he was on the brink of death for a day or so. He is still slightly faded but he has got most of his colour back, and he is chomping away again. Il just monitor him, see how he gets on. Thanks for the help although im still at a loss as to what happened to the other 2
