I have a 4ft tank and would like to keep cichlids, i have already chosen what lake i like lake malawi any suggestions on what fish to get? My favourite is the red-finned cichlid (labeotropeus trewavasae). And what type of plants are there that they wont eat?

You've got lots of species to choose from here, any mbuna that isn't too mild stands a chance of working. Anything that catches your eye in particular?

Any large and thick leafed plant could work out, like Java fern or Anubius.

I like the red finned cichlid (labeotropheus trewavasae), electric yellow, electric blue, pseudotropheus zebra, alot of the aluncara and many more.
today i'm starting to set the tank up am getting bits of rock and sticking them together with aquariam sealent and then sticking it to the back of the tank for shelter. What do you think is best??

Yellow Labs should be tough enough to handle it, and the Zebra's too (just choose one type of Zebra though). By electric blue do you mean Johanni? If so it's a good choice also. Aulonocara do not do well in these types of setups though, so I'd forget about them.

Sounds fine, as long as there's lots of caves and hiding spots. I've always just piled the rocks up - gluing them is much to permanent and makes cleaning a real hassle.
