I will agree, most of the look a mess, But I have to say, some of the are all time classics that look ''OK'' now and then.

My thoughts exactly. Sure they are plastic fake childish things. So what? They are colorful, fun to watch and add movement and interest to an otherwise dead tank. Children love them because they don't know yet there are supposed to be "rules" about how a tank is "supposed" to look.

Do I have one in my tank? No....but I personally prefer a more "balanced" look. I think its a matter of personal taste really, not what a tank is "supposed" to look like according to others. If it does it for you then great as long as it doesn't hurt or kill the fish. Its your tank and that's who its meant to entertain.

OK I will get off of my soap box now, the indignant Huguenot has come out in me enough today.

It looks wicked but Im not a skeleton person..... My cousin has one and It looks cool but it doesent do much.

Who else started of with these and what air ornament was it?
For me it was an old Hartz ornament of a lighthouse....

This is that chest I started out with. It was great...pretty detailed....and the string of "pearls" hanging out of the chest was an actual dangling string of little beads and it had the "pearls" inside along with various shiny "jewels" inside;

This is the "deluxe" model I never did have but wanted....its what your diver pic reminded me of;

I also remember a ship with a turning wheel on the back. Great stuff.

Yeah, besides the one that actually look decent give the tank something new, and keep it from getting boring. Also, gives fish air.
