:dunno: Hi there,i have a 12" airstone in my 78lt tank, it looks quite nice in the evening with the lights on, but i have been told you can have to much oxygen in the water. This air curtain is on most of the day but is switched off at night is this acceptable ?

you can't have too muhc oxygen in water... it saturates at some point

the only way to have too much is to inject oxygen directly in the water. I say it's fine to leave it on at all times, although it is still fine to close it sometimes if you want

As Yves said, the concentration of o2 in the water does have a saturation point when no more o2 will dissolve.

There are some fish that become ill in water with a high o2 saturation, but most fish, especially plecs and other fast-water fish will benefit.

There only real downside to an air curtain is the increased agitation of the water's surface dissapates dissolved Carbon Dioxide (co2) more quickly which although good for the fish, is bad for plants.
