does aerating the water help keep the pH from declining?

ever since i bought a female betta, i raised the water level in my 10 gallon until the bio-wheel power filter outlet is just touching the water surface. i did this so the betta would have an easier time swimming around and not have to fight the current too much. however, my pH has been steadily declining (0.1 every 2 days) recently.

can the cause be insufficient aeration?

ps stocking is in my signature.
