I have a 55 gallon tank that is newly cycled. I put 15 female bettas in there a couple days ago, and next week (at the earliest) I'll be adding two keyhole cichlids, or about 6 babies and letting two pair off. Eventually I'd like to also put in a bristlenose pleco and maybe a school of white cloud mountain minnows.

Right now the tank has some major filtration... a Magnum 350 Pro (with the two bio-wheels) and the Penguin 350 (also with 2 bio-wheels). It really seems like overkill to me though, as well as a waste of electricity (and the cause of a tank with a lot of current, which the bettas girls don't appreciate very much), and I'm thinking I should take out the Penguin. Would this be okay?

Also, I've never had any fish other than bettas before, and so never had to worry about sufficient aeration of the water. If I take out the Penguin 350, will the two bio-wheels of the Magnum provide enough oxygen? I have an air pump, but I really really don't like bubbles, so I'd prefer not to use it... but is it necessary?

Any advice would be appreciated. :) I feel like such a n00b... and I guess I am, hehe.

The magnum is plenty to aerate and filter your water without the penguin addition. You would have nothing to worry about if you removed the second filter.
