Which cichids are we talking about?

Some of the more peaceful are ok, rams, keyholes are ok.

Angelfish would be fine, too. Firemouths, severums, festivium have a reputation for being relatively peaceful, but they're also pretty big. I've heard luck with people keeping platys and swordtails with unpaired convicts, as well. They're nimble and robust enough to put up with some amount of aggression, but paired convicts are terror for anything that shares water with them.

I have both a festivum and a pair of cockatoos in a 30 gal for the moment with platies. I would not advise keeping with FMs, or sevs. but as I said anything from the apistogrammas, rams, or keyholes would also be options avalible.

would bolivian rams be ok as they are quite small and i have a jewel rekon 80 and dont want something that will be too big for the tank, and upon doing some reasurch they grow to about 4" so should be ok with 10 plattys, i am looking at keeping a pair would this be ok?

Yes bolivian rams would be fine, two in there should be no problem. Provide them with some plants (real or fake) and a couple of caves and they shoud be fine. You will need to keep on top of water changes and provide good water quality as rams can be senstive to higher levels of nitrAte than other fish. Bolivian rams are hardier than german blue rams though, so you should be fine.
