I would say no, unless you want dead platys, then again it may depend onwhat type of cichlids you are wantingto mix them with.

Apart from anything else (i dont know much about platys mind you) they would require different water parameters to african cichlids.

Cichlids can't be put in a community tank, if you did then you would eventually just end up with a Cichlid tank. Also, you have to consider the size of your tank.
