If anyone has seen my thread in the emergency section they will know the story behind this Ram, i'll fill you in.

I purchased a second hand tank to use for hospital/quarentine purposes, the tank had sat with no filtration and no heating with only a couple inches of dirty water and ornaments in it for 2 days in the persons garage.

When i got the tank home and set about cleaning it a fish fell from one of the submarine ornaments (to say the least i was shocked) more so that it was still alive but in very poor condition, i thought because the fish had survived such extreme conditions that it deserved a shot at life and hopefully make it through to a new found freedom in my main tank.

What i would like to know is should i add a companion as it looks very miserable on its own and all the researching is pointing towards them being kept as pairs (once it "as i dont know its sex" returns to full health).

Believe me last night the poor thing was motionless and covered in mucas with faeces and other tank debris stuck to it, after carefully bringing it back to temp over a few hours and a little clean with new water and spare filter from my main tank this is how it looked this morning:

So in a nutshell would it be best for me to add a tank mate and introduce them both to my main tank at the same time, any particular food they like as ive read they dont take kindly to flake, and another question is why is it a weird shape compared to others ive seen as it looks very round and flat like a disc.

wow he has been through alot, he is looking good considering what he has been through. He looks like my blue rams but hopefully someone will tell you for sure. Mine take flake fine also bloodworm, daphnia. If he is a blue ram looks like a male and I think he would well deserve a female companion  Good luck and keep us informed :)

Looks like a balloon ram.

I would keep it in a tank away from your other fish for awhile to make sure it doesn't have anything. Quarintine basically.

I don't know a lot about them in regards to keeping them in pairs.

Looks like a balloon ram.

Thank you very much, ive searched everywhere and had come to the conclusion that it was a deformity or a hybrid of some kind, i ran a search through google and found this site:

So thanks again for clearing my identification issue (now where do i find these stocked, like i say ive never seen them before hence why i thought it was a deformed blue).
