I have a 20 gallon tropical freshwater planted tank with a Magic Jet Magi-380 filter in it. The last week or so I have had problems with the flow pressure. Each time it goes down a bit I have taken it out and cleaned the pump completely. It isn't really very dirty at all and works fine for a couple of days before the pressure gradually reduces, not off but certainly less than half.
I inherited this tank from a family member who lost interest. I have had the tank approx 4 months now but don't know how old the filter is. I already bought a new bulb for the lamp and a new heater and have a feeling that I need a new filter as well now.
In my tank I have 1 male and 2 female guppy's, 6 zebra danios, 5 cherry barbs, 2 corydoras, 8-9 red cherry shrimp, some trumpet snails and 3 assassin snails to keep the trumpets in check. I put the foot of a pair of tights over the filter end for the safety of the shrimps but this is not the cause of the flow reduction as it has happened prior to that as well.
In the tank I also have an air powered moving bed filter I made myself copied from the tyne valley aquatics guy on his tube site. In the magi-380 I removed the bag of filter media in it and replaced it with Bio Motion media I had left over from the moving bed filter. I still have the sponge in it at the bottom with the Bio Motion above that with the plastic grate between that and the pump impellor.
If I am correct and the filter is finished then could someone recommend me a replacement filter for a 20 gallon tank?.
