hi all, i did post in the emergency section but i think it got overlooked  anyway this morning the guppy died, so what do i do now? there was no sign of any obvious illness or disease and the water is ok, but this only leaves me with one apparently healthy guppy and 3 shrimp, will he be ok on his own? should i get another one? should i wait and see if the other is ok before getting another? sorry to ask but im really nervous about loosing and/or buying any more in case its something ive missed

1 make sure thier happy, 2, could have just been a fluke, i would see how th last one does the next little while if he is doing fine, i would get some more, how did you test the water? i dont no much about shrimp so i have no idea if it would have been them but i dont think so how long did you have the guppy that died before it actually died?
GL and hope that last one stays alive and is healthy

ok firstly for people to help i/they will need some details
1,how long have you had the fish
2,what water when you do a water change are you using
3,when did you last do a water change
4,how long has your tank been set up

ive had the fish about a month, i alternate between 25% and 50% water change every week including vacuming gravel and test water with a API test kit regulary, its only a 20L tank, ive tried to do everything by the book but i still failed

cysticcrab, how do i make sure they are happy?

Which tests did you do, and what were the readings?

It's a good practice do a 50% w/c when your fish act weird or you had one die even if the readings are normal. Something may have gotten in the water that you can't test for.

make sure they are acting right, normal guppy behavior. are they eating, are the moving around frantically, rubbing against things that kind of stuff

did you allow your tank to cycle and let your params settle ?

yes i did do one yesterday and today, i also discovered why he died, (note to self) must hide the food when neices and nephews visit, the little buggers had been free feeding them because they wanted to see them swim quickly for the food :grr: hence a sudden rise in ammonia (little s**ts)

Good opportunity to teach them. Without making them feel horrible about themselves they should learn what happens when fish get fed when they shouldn't, or what they shouldn't. If you only hide the food, they may decide to share a sandwich with them next time!

good lord dont say things like that, i'll be padlocking the tank next  apparently they liked the feeding frenzy the fish and shrimp did when food was dropped in, i should know better to know that when kids are quiet....worry
