Good day to you all, looking for a little information with regards to my recently cycled, very lightly planted 30L corner unit (6 fish- Cardinal Tetra, Endler Guppy and Cherry Barbs, plus 3 adult amano shrimp).

I'm looking for 3/4 plants that will grow no bigger than 7/8 inches in height to go along the right hand side of my tank...i've seen a couple in my LFS yet i would like to go back armed with some information and really test the lads' knowledge in there..

Any help highly appreciated.
Terry.

With roughly one, to one and a half watts per gal of fluoresecent bulbs, I should think plant's like cryptocoryne,Java fern, and Anubia would work.

Thank you Roadmaster. Java Fern is my favourite so far... i should have said though, i have roughly 3/4mm gravel substrate currently in my tank.. but i am more than happy to now change it to something more sustainable for the small amount of plants i have my eye on.

Regards,
Terry.

I should think 2 to 3 mm would be better for rooted plant's but the Java fern and anubia should be attached to wood or rock with fishing line or thread until they adhere to the surface of one or the other so gravel size would be unimportant for these two species.

Most stem plants will grow without a height limit, but they can be trimmed to the height you want quite easily.. otherwise, I strongly recommend you look at small Crypts and Anubias. With Crypts, there is a chance that they could grow taller than usual height, but Anubias is quite predictable and also slow growing.

Thank-you both...

I have already purchased a small ornament (which doubles up to hold my air bubble bar, conveniently!) to which to give myself the option of tying plants to.. Java Fern being the firm favourite, yet it is the rooted plants that i hope to get into my tank first..

The small Crypts look lovely, Kitty Kat, thank-you... i shall maybe have to go on availability at my L.F.S...although i see Ebay has regular plant sellers- have either of you had plants from there? Or any other 'in the post' website before?

regards,
Terry.

Not recently in UK.. I used to sell quite a lot on here myself actually so would recommend at looking for normal people who are pruning their plants.

I will recommend Last Trading Post on eBay just because I used to be quite good friends with the guy and sometimes (wo)manned the shop for him. I haven't spoken to him in about 6 months now though as he's been quite busy.

Terry.
