Advice Please

myself and my little girl are newcomers to the hobby.she has a 21 litre tank.it is now 3 months old.we have 2 leopard Danios,6 White cloud mountain minnows.We are looking for something to (a)act as a cleaner,(b)live at the bottom of the tank.could we get a shrimp or a bottom dwelling fish.suggestions pls .many thanks.

I'd have shrimp in a tank that size.
(my smaller tank is 25L and I have 5 Amano shrimp in there)

Although I suggest to get these, they don't really clean haha.
But they do collect all the flakes that the fish drop... which is quite good

Plus my shrimp don't always stay at the bottom, they love to swim around the tank it's fun to watch.

or you could have some Corries. They are cute and small

I'm still a newbie also, so maybe someone with more knowledge could help you out a bit more than me.

Agree with Danny about the shrimp. If you want a good mini cleaner you can't do better than the otocinclus, a tiny dwarf suckermouth catfish. They adore algae and are real cuties, preferring to be kept in little groups of 4 or 5. Corys are good for cleaning substrate but go for the dwarf variety in a smaller tank.

Bristlenose plec? is there somewhere for them to hide?

21l is way way to small for a bristlenose or any plec.

Personally I wouldn''t add anything else to a tank that size - I think the danios are too large as it is. If the danios were swapped then a trio of otos or dwarf cories would be fine, a few shrimp would also be ok.

Well you experienced guys know the score....local shop says "get these they will be fine",being new,we didnt know better.

Absolutely - LFS (local fish shops) are notorious for bad advice to new starters unfortunately. You've found us here now though so hopefully can get correct advice from lots of very experienced people who don't want your money LOL.

what id say is buy two azoo palm filters only 8.99 each at drs foster and smith! and put ceramic rings and other biomedia in one of them and sponge in the other an use two of them to house 6leopard danios as danios are schooling fish and should be in 6+ numbers. what you can do is swap your 6 minnows for an azoo if you can or sell them and use the money for an azoo palm filter and invest 9 dollars to buy another one.that tank is 5.5 gallons way too small even to house 6 danios would be at its limit do id suggest two azoo palm filters one for mechanical filtration and one for biological filtration and rehome your minnows only keep the six danios.
