Hi everyone, fist time posting here... I am setting up a 20 gallong tank for my son Matthew who is three. I did have one of my own about 20 years ago, but have since been out of the hobby.

The tank is a 20 gallon unit (24Lx12Wx14H). The water in my community (southern ontario canada) is hard, and a little bit alkaline. I have always been partial to cichlids. Are there any cichlids that are less aggressive to keep.

I do not intent to put more than 6-7 fish in the tank.

I would appreciate any other advice about fish and what some of you out there would recommend as well.

Thanks

Try to put some small Lake Tang shell dwellers in it! You could get like 5 in there!

I am in Toronto and our water is perfect for african cichlids.

I just picked up some shelldwellers and they are very cool, you'll love them. Most other "small" Africans grow to a minimum of 4-5inches so the shellies are your best option. If your interested, PM me and I can hook you up with a couple of local guys who have them cheap.
