Please can I have some help?

I have 3 male guppies two fan tail and one lion tail. Some time over night one of my fan tails has had about 75% of its tail removed in what looks like an attack.

1. Will his tail grow back?

2. Does he require any special treatment/medication ( for pain or discomfort)

3. What is his survival rate because his swimming seems to be suffering because of the tail loss?

Thank you for any help and advice.

I have got attached to this little fish because its tail colour was very unusual.

Duane.

Torn fins grow back generally, unless they are torn way down. Separate out the fish and give it time to heal. Provide it hiding places, even if it is the only fish in the tank so it will feel safe.

My Silver shark was attacked by who knows what in my tank and lost his dorsal fin and tail fin and i put him in a different tank with my ghost shrimp and put Stress Coat (10ml per gallon) into the tank and with in 1-1½weeks his fins were back and he is happy now in my main tank.

These are gold fish tail types not guppy.

How ever do a water change and repeat 2-3 time for the next week changing about 20% at a time.
treat with a malicate based treatment to stop fungal infection, something like myxazin.

If u have active carbon remove for 24 hours wile treating.

i have bred guppies for years and when i havent then just looked after them in general.

dont worry hes just got himself into a bit of a mess, if you have no females the its likely that he hass been trying to mate with yur other male guppies or other fish and they havent taken it so good. ive had two with the same problem over the past two months, slowly and surely the fins have started to grow back but note that it does take time and believe me they do learn from their mistakes.

was wondering if you have fish in your tank that are prone to nipping fancy fins, such as angels or betta or danios

bettas don't nip fins...
but the guppy will get better you just have to be patient, if the other fish keep harassing him it's probably because you might not have any females (like modaz said).

They can. People have had issues keeping male Guppies with male Bettas, since the Bettas can become aggressive towards the Guppies and their long, flowing fins.

Whenever one of my males has a fin nipped, I separate him if possible, and keep him in nice, sparkly, clean water. I will also add a little bit of salt, if the other fish don't mind, or if he is in a separate tank. I've had tremendous success with this method, and all of my Guppies have had their tails grow back. It takes a while, and they don't always come in perfectly. There may be some uneven edges. If the tail is nipped pretty close to the body, you'll want to watch it to make sure it doesn't become infected.

Good luck!
