Maybe some sort of ornament that he can swim in and out of and hide in? Ummmm, I have read they like plastic tubing to swim and hide in aswell. I have to get a few bits for my betta tank too - all it has are 2 plants in and some gravel! He doesnt seem to mind for now but I will be getting him an ornament to hide in soon.

see i dont liek all the "ornaments" on the market dya think a betta would mind a rock with a hole in it as i can sort this out at work no problem

Anything he can hide behind when the mood takes him is fine. As long as there are no sharp edges to catch his fins on and damage them. If you can run some nylon tights over the item and they don't snag it should be fine. Just remember wood can have sharp bits just as easily as rocks.

As for Java fern your betta won't mind either way. The plant won't harm him and it will be something else he can use for cover.

sounds good to me jva fern centre piece and maybe some smooth wood or rock swish thanks alot everyone :good:

i think all aquatic plants are safe and welcome by bettas. wood and some rocks can have sharp edges so be careful with those.i nice cave or rock formation i think the betta will like, it can swim though it and around the decoration.

I use small clay plant pots scrubbed clean. I also use aquatic glue and put small buttons over the drainage hole so they dont swim through. :shout:

I like the plant pot idea - Ill go grab one out my garden tomorrow and scrub it clean for him! I also have some nice big pebbles Im going to scrub and put in the tank for him.

stunning little tank, Upturned pots make lovely little ornaments that look more natural than a plastic shark head or anything like that. Make sure you wash it good tho. Will you put anything with your little betta??

A few chunks of dark grey rock would look really nice in there, maybe put java moss on the rocks too. The wood with the java ferns on it would also be nice. I think some background plants would be good...anything tall that will grow in your light conditions will work.
