Just been to LPS to get more water conditoner etc.

Doing a fish in cylce never had filter set up properly. been doing three 25% water changes every for last 10 days. ammonia now 0 and nitrites 0.25

Lps advised not to do as many water changes a day and keep it to 1 water change a day, a hour or so after being fed.

SHE ADVISED If i am doing 3 water changes the filter wont get as much as a chance to covert nitrite to nitrate?

is she right or should i ignore advise and continue to do as i am doing?

i agree. she is right this time, but dont get used to it! lps's alwase lie to you to sell products, alwase ask on here before taking lps advice

they dont always lie, lps/lfs, there are probably like a million in the world, not every one of them put money over life (but most do)

Less water changes is better for the cycle, but the fish must come first. You must keep ammonia and nitrite below 0.25. If you can do that by doing 1 water change per week, fine. If you need 6 changes per day, thats what you need to do. Do as few as you can, but always keeping levels below 0.25. :good:

That's quite offensive to me, painting everybody with the same brush like that. I pride myself in that in my shop we would rather lose the sale than sell incompable fish or give bad advice. All of the staff are fish-keepers themselves and really care for the hobby. This is perhaps the reason why moderator and PFK writer George Farmer comes into the shop along with other high-profile fish-keepers such as Jeremy Gay, who both swear by the shop. In the future you better to use the phrase 'In my expereince LFS can sometimes try to sell you products you don't need.'

Thank you!

Hi Zoe

I don't think there is a need for to carry on doing daily water changes, espically if you buy a product called (Only joking!).
Seriously though, there's no need for you to do water changes each day, all the time your Nitrites are .25ppm you'll be fine. If they creep over that then do a water change but as backtotropical says, your better of doing fewer water changes at the moment. Best to look at it like this:

> 0ppm Ammonia or > 0.5ppm Nitrite then do a partial water change
Anything less and leave it to it's own cause!

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Tim
