Advice On Last Fish To Put In

I've got a 60 litre tank which currently has 6 cherry barbs and two plecs (both very small at the moment, will be switched as they grow). I'd like to either put one or two slightly larger and more interesting fish in there, or else a shoal of small fish, to complete the tank. I've been looking at various options, but there always seem to be problems with them, either in terms of incompatible tank mates or just the general tank setup itself. I would much prefer a hardy fish without too many difficult eating habits.

The tank has a fairly significant current, which I've broken up with tall, fake plants. It is also well aerated.

I'd appreciate any advice on this.

Here are some pictures. They were taken on a phone, hence the poor quality.

I would go for another school of small fish. Perhaps a tetra or Pseudomugil rainbowfish.

Thanks for the reply.

I was considering either cardinal tetras or harlequin rasboras. Would either of these be acceptable?

Are there no larger fish that would be suitable?

I would go with the harlequin rasboras since they are from kind of the same area as the barbs - I like continuity with my fish species. lol!

As long as your barbs are not overly active or nippy you could also keep gouramis with them - a dwarf gourami pair maybe.

I wouldn't mind two dwarf gouramis, but this thread says that keeping two is a bad idea. One of these might be an option. What's the smallest group of these you can have to reduce aggression?

I really like the rams, but according to the thread about them, they're very sensitive to water condition and prefer it soft. The water supply here is very hard, so I think they're out of the question.

I think it is possible to have 2 as long as you get a male and a female gourami and make sure the female has plenty of room to escape from the male if she is "not really in the mood" - if you know what I mean. Alternitavely you could just keep 1 and get some rasboras as well.

harleuins or cardinals would be fine and so would a pair of dwarf gouramis.
Rams are pretty tolerant of water conditions unless they are wild caught. If you do want a pair of rams wait until the tank has had fish in for a month or so before adding them.

I think dwarf gouramis are pair forming fish so I am not sure if a trio would work or not. Plus, you might have a hard time finding females because many LFS stock mostely males - I guess it depends on where you get your fish though.
