I have had a pair of Kribs for a month know, I noticed the other day that they have taken over a corner of the tank and started to attack every thing that ventured near

A couple of days on now the female sits outside the cave and I can just see the male poking its head out but has not left the cave

I presume they have been upto the naughty thing in the cave but find it strange that the male stays in the cave and the female stays outside

I really want to put my hand in the tank and tilt the cave (flowerpot) a little to see if eggs are visible

this is the first time they have bred (not sure they have really as cannot see into the flowerpot) so have they got a little confused because i certainly am

Don't disturb the pot or shine a light into it, or they may become stressed and eat the eggs. Just leave them to it, if there are eggs and they do hatch, he will emerge with the young fry after a few days.

Is it possible that the male is looking after the eggs and the female has abandoned the nest??

Hi
Usually its the female who guards the eggs and the male who defends their territory but sometimes they share the duties.
Echoing what dwarf says--please dont disturb the cave even though I know how tempting it is. You wont have long to wait anyway-I think its about a week before the young hatch and you will see her/him parading them round the tank.
BTW dont be too disappointed if they dont get it right first time

thanks for your advice, I am bit concerned that the male hasn,t eaten for a couple of days he is normally the first to the bloodworm then when he,s finished the other fish eat whats left (my platies think they are in heaven at the mo beacause they are now first inline)

Is there food that i need to obtain just in case fry appear??

The fry are not particular and will forage for food on the tank floor and on bogwood etc. They also can eat finely crunched flakes and baby brine shrimp. They are one of the easier fry to cater for
One word of caution is to remove them if the parents get ready to breed again as they will very likely change from babies into lunch for the parents
Please note Im not an expert and only going on my experiences and what Ive read.My first lot of fry were eaten by the mother on Day 2 :/
