I tested my tap water before a water change and my GH is reading 180 and my KH is 240... going by the test strips they are both high.So it is obvious my tap water that it causing my water un balance and causing my severum to flit all over the tank  Does anyone have advice on what i should do or use for my water changes please, I am using api stress coat already thankyou

Test strips are known to be inaccurate. So i'd suggest purchasing a liquid test kit before you mess with anything in your water.

Do you mean that your Severum is darting around the tank and/or quickly rubbing off the decor? What is your ph? Your Kh reading isn't that bad (high), Kh refers to hardness derived mainly from carbonate and bicarbonate ions and directly reflects your buffering capacity (how stable your ph is). It can be remove by boiling. Although a Kh reading of 240ppm is med. hard and is stable. Gh refers to the dissolved concentration of calcium and magnesium ions. When someone says there fish needs soft or hard water this is what they mean (Gh- general hardness). Your Gh reading of 180ppm is good (medium). Based on this I would say your water is fine and something else is bothering your Severum.
