Hi, I have a 190L corner tank with no fish as yet but want to get some angels in the near future. Problem is the info I'm getting from all the sites conflicts and has left me a bit confused.

Can I keep more than one pair of adult angels in the same tank or will this stress the fish? Is it possible to keep say 4 females together with no males? And can the two sexes be easily identified?

Any information will be greatly received
thanks

hi there.

sexing angelfish is nearly impossible until spawning time. at that time both will drop their papillae or breeding tubes. hers will be much wider, thicker and rounder, so eggs can come out of it. his will be smaller and more pointy. all he does is go behind her and touch each egg with his papilla.

with regards to how many you can keep. that depends on many factors, and i dont know much about corner tanks. however in terms of them getting along, all angels should get along until spawning time, at which time they will attack the other angels and any other fish. problem is if you go all females, you will still have the same aggression issue as fully grown females will continue to lay (and defend) eggs even without a male!

if you dont want to breed them, dont worry about the sexes, if and when they do lay the eggs just take them out (squish them or brush them off where they laid them, pick them up with a fine net) and shortly after they should calm down again :good:

have fun!

i agree with trojannemo :good:
190 L with a bit of decorations n plants come mating time, you should be able to keep 4 full grown angels no problem, i would pick lively ones from the LFS
come mating time the angels will charge any fish in their area i added extra tall decorations so they couldnt charge across the top of the tank and even so the other angel saw them comming so adjusted his body
I'd pick up 3 babies you can always add another one later.
ive a 145L aqua one tall.

Thanks very much guys, Ive never kept angels before but definitely want to give it a go now!

Thanks again :good:
