I had an ammonia problem a couple of weeks ago and by doing daily water changes etc i got rid of both nitrite and ammonia.

Now as of today there back again
ph=7.5
ammonia=1.2
nitrite=0.3
nitrate=5

I have a fluval 2+ in the aquarium at the moment would it help adding another filter as i have a fluval 1 i could put in if it will help?

tank has been set up for 2-3 months now

i would appreciate any help in what to do
thanks

whoa! 1.2 is a pretty huge ammo problem!

do you have fish in this tank?
how many fish and how big is the tank?
is the tank fully cycled?
have you added new fish?
did you have a power cut recently that stopped your filter working for several hours or more?
is your spare filter in a cycled tank?

get straight onto your water changes now if you have fish in the tank. you will need about 30% changed every hour for the next 3 hours, or two lots of 50% over three hours or so to get your ammo back into safe levels.

sorry for all the questions, just need to work out where all this ammo has come from.

there hasnt been a power cut

and no spare filter is not in cycled tank it is just another one i have

i had the same ammonia problem 3-4 weeks ago and got rid of it by doing daily water changes for about a week . and no problems for 2 weeks now same again??
why would this be happening??

tank has been set up for about 3 months now

any fish gone mysteriously missing? (unnoticed dead bodies will elevate ammo).
any stress or overfeeding?

sorry, i don't mean to keep answering your questions with more questions, i am just trying to eliminate causes for the ammo hike.

i would add lots and lots of live plants, reduce the feeding frequency, and keep the water changes going until a cause for the fluctuation of your stats can be found.

although it's cold comfort, at least the presence of nitrite shows oyur tank hasn't completely uncycled itsself.

all the best, merry.

no all fish are their and accounted for, all in perfect condition
no stressing on any fish

their fed once a day and no overfeeding, all food whcih is given is always eating none falls to bottom

i have live plants in the tank also!

Did you recently trim the plants? Removing too much plant matter from a planted tank can get the cycle all out of whack.
