Hello All,

I'm a newbie and have just bought a Juwel Rio 180 tank with all the gear coming with it. I've bought small natural various coloured gravel, various rocks, several plastic types of plants, 5 java ferns and 2 vallisaneria plants. Its all set up having washed the tank, gravel and plants with no soap etc. Filter and pump have been running since friday evening and I have the temperature at 24 now. I understand a bit about the nitrogen cycle but have got a little confused reading so much conflicting advice  so I am hoping on a little clarity from all you pros :)

My neighbour actually runs a small tropical fish shop and has very kindly been round to confirm I have set it all up correctly and its looking good (phew). He has advised that I go for 25 neon tetras which he can supply in about a week at £1.35 each and that I dont need to worry about a qurantine tank because they strictly qurantine all the fish at their shop before selling.

I guess I just want to find out is this too many neon tetras or is this the right thing to do, would this be too early to put 25 in (we will test all the parameters fully before we put them in next week . Basically I want to makesure I am a good fish keeper and dont want the fish to have a bad life or be stressed. I ideally would like several different types of fish including some that eats algae/bottom feeds and maybe one or two other types of tropical fish that are different to neon tetras and that look colourful/impressive where they will all live happily together.

Any advice on suitability for my community would be greatly appreciated and any other general advice.

Thanks for any input in advance

Anthony
