Need some advice im gonna change my 50 gal tank to a cichlid tank, although not certain what type yet, so far ive removed some of the fish, not all as i need to keep the filter media alive, and im selling off plants in the buy and sell section, ive also removed wood to other tanks etc, and replaced with some rocks, not enough i know i need to add some more but what sort and where from is another problem. So whats the best type to start with, and where in essex can i get them im assuming if i go and ask in a shop ill be sold all and sundry, id rather get them from a member with lots of experience at keeping and breeding them.

so ask away, ive very hard water here anyway so at least thats one problem sorted. di[/img]

What are the dimensions of the tank?

For starters:

Labidochromis Caeruleus-(yellow labs, electric yellow) are popular and are more laid back than the other types of mbuna. Considered a good beginner fish.

Iodotropheus Sprengerae (rusty) generally are good beginner fish for the same reason.

Pseudotropheus Acei is also a docile fish. If your tank is 50 imperial gallons, then it's 60 usg and may be big enough for them as a minimum size. These fish get around 7" or 18 cm.

um you still need to answer my other question so I can help you with total stocking.

What are the dimensions of the tank? and 50 imperial or 50 usg?

Kj

ok 1200 cm would be 400 something inches or 12 meters. I'm confused

ok about 60 usg= about 17 at the most.

its this one

1200 mm is 47" length
400mm is 15" wide
450mm is 17" tall

is that correct? I don't think I've seen anyone post in mm before, usually cm or inches. I'm from the US so we use inches....bear with me :)

I'd say you could have any of the fish I listed. 1m to 3f ratio. They are herem breeders and will beat up on females if there aren't enough to disperse it.

My advice: see about getting the fish you want and get it lined up so you'll be able to get them in a few weeks. Get ammonia and sell your remaining fish. Fishless cycle your tank(with the ammonia) to it's max capacity and you won't have to worry about preserving your bacteria during this time and you'll be able to fully stock at one time(which is better b/c other fish don't have territory already established).

sorry i copied the diamensions from the box it came in, i cut it out and kept them in a folder, so yes i think that sounds about right, and thanks for the advice, di
