Hi all,

I just want to check with you guys to make sure of a few things. I set up a 30g today. I have had about 3in of gravel and flourite in a cycled 10g for two months now that I took out and put in the 30g. I have a new filter but I also have an extra filter going on my other 30g that I will put in it as well. All the water is new though. Do you think the tank will go through another cycle?
Also, when tanking out the the gravel out of my 10g the flourite has made the water in their cloudy and I have some neons in there. Can this hurt them?

thanks for any advice

You will most likely still experience a cycle, although it may be milder than starting from scratch. It will probably cycle much quicker.

The dust in the water will settle, i don't think it will affect the neons at all.

You have really done all you can do. I would just let the tank go through its mini-cycle naturally.

Hi gaya1111 :)

It probably wouldn't be worth the trouble to add water from other tanks. Most of the beneficial bacteria are clinging to the surfaces of the filter media, gravel, plants, glass, decorations, etc. and few are free floating in the water.

Most of the beneficial bacteria you are moving from one tank to another will be found in the filter media and gravel. What would concern me however, is that most of the bacteria live in the top 1/2 to 3/4 inch of it. If you mixed it up during the move, you may have lost much of it. Nevertheless, it will reproduce quickly.

Just monitor the ammonia and nitrite levels, do water changes as necessary, and soon everything will be cycled just fine. :D
