I currently have a 55 gallon with African Cichlids. I bought a 10 gallon that I was going to use as a fry tank...however I think I would like to put a few fish in there instead. Is it way too small for a SA Cichlid like a small Oscar? (I have a soft spot for them, just not the tank size!) If it is, I guess I will just get a few mollies, platys, and/or danios. Will I need a small heater for these fish? Also, my tap water is very alkaline (7.8-8.0). Great for the cichlids, but do I need to lower it for the community fish?

Also, if I want to cycle it using biological matter from my larger tank, what is the best way to do this? Would squeezing the water from one of my 55g filters destroy the bacteria in the 55g? Thanks!

yes, you will need a heater and filter. alk for these fish i dont really know if it is safe?

and to clone your tank one of the best way IMO is to use gravel that is mature

or mix half and half whatever, to clon it by media ive only done it with the same filters. Also for a 10g i do

not recommend mollies they need more like a 20+g tank

and so do danios they need atleast a 20g too

Depends on what you would like. How about those danios and if you want more fish get a larger, say a 30 - 50 g tank or bigger.
