hay everyone im thinking of adopting unwanted, badly treated bettas from aquariums and such and rehoming them.
i was just wondering if there is any need for a heater for a 4lt (maybe a little more cant remember) container.....???
if so is there one small enough to fit that size.... yes it maybe small but none the less. i am saving there lives. sooo i maybe doing something bad by haveing such a small home for them but im saving there lives so i guess that out weighs the need for a big tank anyday.....

also heating.... im thinking of setting up about 7 1ft containers by half a foot side by side . they each have there own lids and i was thinking of how i could get a light for them all. all lids have little messy sized holes in them so i was thinking of just using a lamp or two. one on each side of my desk to allow some light to travel in.

if there is anyone that could help me out i would be greatly appreciative.
thanx a million

you could always use a reptile heat pad? Obv. no thermostat so got to keep an eye on the temp but they do work well. Just put it underneath the container :)

Your in Oz aren't you, so what is the evening temp like at the moment, if in the mid 20c+ then a heater isn't needed, but please be aware if you are using small containers for the fish then daily water changes will be required. If the temp gets lower than 20c then you could get a larger tank and place a few inches of water in the tank and use a heater in there and then float the smaller containers in there or as Alessa says use a reptile mat under the larger aquarium to heat the tank (think a heat mat under a small container like you mention would cook the fish as the temp would go up quite a bit without a thermostat 4 litres is quite a small amount of water really).

Lighting wouldn't be required apart from ambient room light unless of course you are sitting the containers in a very dark place and you plan on having plants in them, which I don't think you will be doing as the containers are small. So apart from room lighting you won't need a light for them.

thanx to all. im actually putting them in my old room. it is teh coldest room in the house but my sister sleeps in tehre and we have a portable heater that we use. soo the temp would be ralativly warm.
there will be no plants in them apart from a few fake ones that will go int eh corner as to alow free swimming space.
i agree the heat mat will cook my fishies. but teh heater should be suffice. teh light i will be using is a desk light. i will have 2 of them running. one on each side of my desk so as they get even amounts of light.
as far as the small housing spoaces. they wont be permenantly housed in them. they will be in tehm for as long as they have to until io find a good enough betta adoptee. which will not be hard to find considering i am a member of a few melbournme based aquarium classifieds, forums......

if there are any other ideas please dont be afraid to tell.... i am greatly in need of help....
once again thanx.
