hi everybody been trying to lower the PH in my aquarium and have been un successful at keeping it stable my Blue Rams have spawned 3 times and my kribs have also but they always eat their eggs which is pissing me off i belive that my water PH is whats effecting my fishes and eggs so I'm trying the peat in filter method and don't know what to do. By the way I have put this last spawn of my rams in a jar of RO water whith airation hope they hatch got this method off the net at Aquatic Hobbyist .com hope it works thats it for now bye Curtis Johnson
The higher your ph, the less affect the peat moss will have on your water. If it's above 8 then I doubt you will see much, if any. Starting with RO water is your only reliable option.
However freddy is right that if your water is already excessively hard and high in pH the peat probably wont have much affect and diluting the tankwater with R/O water would be best before you start with peat filtration.
Hi CFC first off want to apoligize for not sendy you a reply to your very informative post so thanks very much I believe I'm going to start brewing up some Peat water will save me a bunch of $s and seems quite easy to do just time consuming so appears my problems (fingers crossed) solved so thanks again. And guess what been keeping me off the web it's my rams they spawned and this time I tryied a different method I found on the net to try and save the eggs and it worked and Iv'e been getting micro worms and vinager worms infusioria and such almost lost the spawn not sure what caused it but was doing what the site said to hatch out the eggs and get the fry past the first 2-3 weeks of free swimming well I started feeding them infusiora and egg yoke and the seemed to be feeding swimming all around when I came back 15 20 min later they were all at tha bottom not moving so I went and got som RO water in a butter dish and siphoned and eydroppered them into it still no movement after 3-5 min then low and behold 1 moved then others I think I lost only about 1/3rd and the rest are in my ten gallon tank swimming and eating should be able start brine shrimp sat Iv'e been lucky so far SO talk to you later THANKS again from across the pond Curtis
