Hiya Mate, I think this belongs in the new world cichlid section. And to your question, From what "I" Understand if the tail is bitten right down to the body they I think it will grow back with good water quality etc.

^ thats basically how it works. I was wondering , how did it's tail get eaten off?
Hi, sorry I didn't get back earlier  We have a feeling one of the other cichlids had done the damage, so we've not taken the culprit back to the pet-shop and treated the tank with Melafix. We are keeping a close eye on it, but since move it the fish seems happier :D Will let you know how things go! :good:

depending on how severe the damage is if the tail was taken off to the base ( the peduncle) then theres a very very slim chance that it will grow back, if it was only part of the way based on the age of the fish it will take longer to grow back the older the fish is. but I have had many fish that have gotten parts of their tails bitten very severly in some cases and it has grown back but none of them to the peduncle.
