hey guys. so i'm getting into the whole dipnetting thing, and while everyone thinks of adding fish, i had a situation yesterday. i collected a beautiful long aquatic plant while i was dipnetting. i felt a strong urge to keep it and add it to my aquarium, but for lack of information decided against it...

so, is it ok to get plants from a lake, river, etc, and add them to your aquarium? of course i'm talking about fully aquatic plants. what are the risks of doing so? i would like to do one of those bleach baths that people do to plants...will that help? how are those done?

what's your view on this issue?

thanks :good:

I personally wouldn't, think of the amount of eggs/bugs/algae you would be introducing to your tank. I'd do the bleach thing, and quarentine them for a while too.

Not only that, do we know if the water they came from is polluted, or diseased?

Edit:

Ive read bleaching can damage the plant.

I wouldnt take fish either myself, unless they quarantined for a while, you dont know what theyre carrying.
