When i add water, i take my 5 gallon bucket and fill it with tap water and then while the water is still int he bucket i put water conditioner in it (AquaPlus) then i wait a few minutes and add it to the tank. I know i can do this but i was wondering if i can just put the tap water in the tank and then add the conditioner to the tank, because that would be much easier with a 125 gallon, i just dont want to disturb the bacteria, any help?

You can put the conditioner in the tank and then add new water. Most manufacturers recommend that you dose to the size of the tank in this case, not the size of the water change. So it does use more conditioner but is easier for large tanks.

Wouldn't recommend adding the water and then the conditioner though - the chlorine might already have damged the bacteria.

I do what Slyspy said. I take the water out, pour in my conditioner, then add the new water. It may go through a bit more of the stuff, but its easier, and it doesnt take as long.

Okay, so step by step this is what you guys are suggesting?:
1) Remove the amount of water to do water change
2) Add water conditioner to the tank
3) add the tap water to the tank

Is this what you guys are saying?
Sorry just not quite understanding :dunno:

HI...I've had no problems with my water changes. I have a 46 gallon tank and use a Python. I remove my water....add the dechlorinator to the tank....then check temp and replace the water. I've gotten to the point where I can adjust the tap to within one degree. I haven't lost any fish during a water change to date. SH

Okay so if i did this step by step would i be adding water right?

1) Remove the amount of water to do water change
2) Add water conditioner to the tank
3) add the tap water to the tank

...that looks about right....as posted above by SlySpy..just make sure you add the right amount of conditioner. SH

Why not treat the replacement water in your 5g bucket before adding it? Just curious.

Thats what i was doing but when i finish cycling my 125g that would take forever so i was wondering if there was another way of doing it.
