I would like to get a group of people togeather to work on some species index. With so many african cichlids out there the index here for them is kinda small. if we can expand the index so people can look at the fish pics , diet requirements , temperments , breeding techniques , common diseases and normal care. We can even get pics of different locals. If the forum admins will let i would like to hash out the details here and then we could write the final draft in the species index. The more info we can put into them the better. I hope this will spark some interest please leave a message here if you would like to help.

you can help out in many ways , with knowledge of african cichlids , photos , input , anything you can and will do. Once we get some people into this we can pick a fish or 3 and start a thread to get through the drafts and then post it in the species section.

Sounds good to me - just make sure the final version of the profile is in the exact format of the existing profiles in the fish index.

Once you have a final version for each fish - just post it in the african section of the fish index (without sig) and it goes in the mod que for approval. Don't forget we want these written by people who keep (or have kept) the species in question - in other words personal experience rather than info gathered from the internet. :good:

Here are the rules/guidelines for the fish index:

RULES FOR SUBMITTING PROFILES

Our aim is to create one of the largest and most comprehensive fish indexes available on the internet, for this reason these rules must be followed and adhered to.

Rule 1: You must own or have owned the fish you are submitting a profile on, we do not want information that has just been copied down from a web site or book.

Rule 2: The attached photograph must belong to you or a member of this forum, if the photo is not yours please ask the member for permision before using it and give a credit in your post.

Rule 3: You must stick to the format already in use, profiles submitted in the wrong format may be deleted.

Rule 4: All profiles are subject to moderator checks and may be edited accordingly, if a profile is deemed unsuitable it may be refused. Check your information carefully.

Rule 5: Do not hijack other peoples profiles, if you disagree with any of the information given please contact a moderator and explain what you find is wrong and if possible give sources that back up your belief.

Rule 6: Please switch off your signature when posting a profile (unclick the enable signature box)

I'm trying to put a team togeather because i haven't own every cichlid out there. I also feel experience from more than one person would make alot better care sheet. The rules and format will be followed. Would you like to team up with us ferris ?

I have couple of profiles that i intend to write but haven't got round to yet

I am planning on doing:
Pseudotropheus Demasoni (surprise surprise)
Melanochromis Chipokae

I'll also be happy to help in any way with people writing other profiles etc. :good:

I'm not sure i like the idea of a specific team to do this - it could be perceived as a clique and the fish index is open to everyone. I know that's not what you mean, it's just the impression it might give. Open as many threads as you need for this though - it's a good idea. :D

These are the following species of fish I have owned. Are we only doing this for african cichlids or all fishies. I have owned kribs( duh), brichardi, convicts, discus, mollies, platies, red zebra cichlids, plecos, tetras, danios, swordtails, crayfish, flag fish, pikeguppies ( otherwise know as top minnow) and angelfish.

Done 2, more on the way when i get chance (busy packing to move house, the 8ft tank is getting closer  )

If we are only doing africans I will do Brichardi and Kribs. Also how exactly do we make this index? I am not sure how this is going to work because I dont knoww how to use this forum very well.

The Fish Index is already on the forums, we are just trying to increase the number of species profiled in the African section. :good:
