I will be getting some shrimp for my tank when I have a free day to be able to acclimate them, etc…

My tank has been up and running for almost a year now with not a problem (knock on wood). Everything is stable.. water parameters, my weekly water change and feeding routine.

That said my GH would be the only concern I have I think. I have soft tap water (1 or 2 dkh and my tank sits at 3 to 4 dkh so about 70ppm because of a bunch of Seiryu Stone I have. I have read a few things saying that might be a little low.

Should I slightly raise my GH a couple degrees or leave it?

Thanks

What type of shrimp? And what else is in the tank?

Haven’t decided yet but most likely some Cherry Shrimp but I might look at others.

I have Tetras and Yoyo Loaches

According to seriouslyfish the Yoyo’s like anywhere from 36 to 215 ppm and the Penguin and Blue Tetras according to seriouslyfish have a big range of GH

With the above info I think I would be able to raise the GH up a bit to accommodate the shrimp.

Thoughts?

Ah yes, some gorgeous fish there. But I think the yo-yos will eat the shrimp.

I was also a little concerned about that and had been hearing mixed results. That was the reason for buying adult shrimp (they are bigger) and wouldn’t even come close to fitting in the Yoyo’s mouth. Not sure if they would just pick at them then.

Yes the shrimp should do better with a GH a little higher, the other fish should cope if the change isn't too sudden.
Why don't you try a couple of bigger amano shrimp first, and see how the loaches treat them?

There are soft water shrimp but they are more delicate than cherries and amanos; and I wouldn't put the soft water shrimps in with the loaches either. If you ever decide to set up a shrimp-only tank, that would be the time to try them.
