This may be a really basic question, but what is the best way to add stuff to the tank? Like aquarium salts, or Ammo-2 against ammonia, or Cycle... do you just throw it in? (which is weird because the fish are always heading up top when I get near the tank) or do I put it in the filter?

i usually put my medicine in near hte air pump so that it'll get circulated rather than just sit there. When putting ick medicine (the ones thatturn the water blue), i turn off the filter for a while (just a while!) so the medicine don't get filtered through again immediately.

I don't see a problem with justputting in the meds, yeah my fish comes up looking for food too but i gotta disappoint them once in a while :p

What I would do is to do a partial water change and mix whatever med your using with the new water. That way it is diluted when you put it in and it will circulate around the tank when you pour it in. HTH.

Thanks! Feel more comfortable now - I know it won't hurt the fish but at the same time I like the idea of doing it through water changes.

What is everyone's experience with Aquarium salts in freshwater tanks? Does it really help de-stress the fish? I have 4 platies - the 1 male is sluggish and not eating, and the females seem to beat up on him a lot.
