I would like to add some live plants. In my 55 Cichlid Tank.. Are the preferably plants to add over others, Ive heard the cichlids eat the plants is it worth it to keep stocking the tank? Are their risks, for adding the plants. I would prefer them over fake plants. Please help.

'Cichlids' is pretty vague, can you be more specific?

malawi, i have a few auratus, i dont know the names of the others, Assorted cichlids as the pet store may put it... all are malawi's i believe...

Hey Soaup!!

I'm nowhere near a definative source on this, but through trial and error, I've found that a variety of swords have worked best with mine. I have a mixture of Amazon, Brazilian, and Melon Swords in my 55 gallon. When I say trial and error, there were a few other plants that I tried that the cichlids made into a salad bar rather quickly. These usually were smaller plants that did not have a good root system. I have a couple of large sword plants that about reach the top of the aquarium and they love to hide in those. Anyhow, like I said, not a definative source, but that's what has worked best with mine.

P.S. Thanks for your response on my Ick question in this forum. The Mbunas seem to be doing just fine.

Annubias are pretty tough as well, and will grow in the water ideal to Africans, unlike most plants. Java Fern is also popular. There are no guarantees since we have no idea what you're keeping, all you can do is try. The plants should be for you though, the fish don't need them, all they need is rocks.
