Hi,
I have a 55 gallon tank with 3, 3" silver dollars, 2, 4" firemouths, 1, 6" Royal Pleco, and 2, 3" blue aroras. I was thinking of adding 2 about 3" parrot fish (not hybrid) in the tank. Do you think this is a good idea?

No, you're tank is already over stocked...

Nope. Your tank is at its max, if not over stocking limit already.

Also, when you say 'not hybrid' I can only assume you mean the true 'Parrot Cichlid' Hoplarchus Psittacus - Which has a maximum size of 15".

So a big no from me aswell, sorry.

That is neither his picture, or his tank.

The tank in the picture above belongs to Ted of Anythingfish.com . I dont agree with the way it was stocked, but this was only temporary. The fish, none the less are very healthy. The picture does look worse because half the tank is actually missing, but its still way overstocked.

Devil is right. Thats not my tank. I just saw it on www.anythingfish.com and I thought that all the fish were really awsome. I agree that tank is way over staocked. :fish:

Still, your tank is over stocked with those FM's in em.

yeah but if that was my tank i wouldnt think of it as over stocked,
cichlids prefer a full tank then an empty one, my uncle had a full tank of cichlids for about 3 years and they all got huge and they were fine, in the wild they would be full of diferent sorts of fish swimming about, ok it wouldnt be packed but in breeding time there would be alot of fish all in one area.

if he isnt having any problems with aggression ( besides normal ) and he does regular water changes and his fish all seem to be in good health, then i dont think there is anything wrong with his current stocking.

I would say it is a bit overstocked, but they might be ok if the tank is long enough so the cichlids currently in can each have their own little space... maybe. What are the dimensions of the tank?

the addition of the parrots is a definite no. Abslutely not. never. not in a million years. under no circumstances. not for any reason... but people will do as they please.

uh, maybe if they're Rift Lake cichlids... most of the Riverine species like their own turf to call home and no other cichlids competing for it. and while there might "be alot of fish all in one area" when the cichlids are breeding, those fish would be mama fish, papa fish and all of their .25" babies--completely different story from the tank in question.

Thank you Kubora. I do reagular water changes and my fish are perfectly healthy. I have no problems with aggrestion other than a bit of bulleying from the royal pleco. Other than that my tank is fine

Just because there isn't any agressiong doesn't mean its not overstocked. The tank is overstocked no matter what anyone wants to twist it into. Theres not changing reality.
