Hi all,

I have sand substrate and its lookin alittle low in places... Is it possible to ad another layer or say 1/2 or 1 inch of sand on top? Would i need to do anything if i were to do this?

Hi CluelessScot :)

It's usually best to keep the total level down to an inch or so of sand. This will help avoid the problem of noxious gas building up in it.

Sometimes the problem of thin spots is just that the water flowing out of the filter is pushing it around. If that's what is happening, just put your hand in the tank and push the sand back from time to time. :D

I've added sand or gravel into an established tank. First wash it very very well until it runs absolutely clear.
Then take a fist full at a time and lower your arm down to the spot that you'd like top up. Slowly open your hand (right above the substrate) and release the sand or gravel gently.

It's always worked for me :)
