Adding External To Current Tank?

Hellllooo my girlfriend currently has an internal filter on her 125 litre and im thinking of treating her to an external for both ease and the fact she has quite a few fish in there. dont worry not too many!!

if i get her one would she be able to run it side by side with the internal for a week or two just to establish the media and then that will be it ???

she can either run both side by side but it will take a while to mature the external as it will need completely cycling or she can put all of the media from the internal into the external into one of the baskets and it will be instantly cycled by the already mature media

Just set it up, switch it on and leave both filters on from now on. For the external to fully cycle will take around a month.

I would air on the side of caution, running both filters together for a month, then remove the internal, putting it's media in the external too...

You just don't want any excuse for a mini-cycle to happen

Thanks for you help everyone!!!! will just leave them in tandem for a month or so then put internals media in there too
