Any one know or have experience with adding an external filter to a juwel perticularly trigon 190 without having to cut holes in it?

I added an external filter to a trigon, you will have to cut holes in the rear flap for the inlet / outlet pipes thats all

Nice tank, 2 questions

1, did it still have the juwel internal filter running?

2, I can't see the inlet and out let in the pics are they by the internal filter?

I didnt actually still have the internal running, the inlet pipe for the external was housed in the boxed area previously used forthe internal.  The outlet was a spraybar running acrosss the top left hand side of the tank if that makes sense.

There is no reason why you couldnt keep running the internal with the inlet/ outlet external pipes situated either side of the internal boxed unit.

Hope this helps,

That makes sense if you wasn't using internal

Lol I was just looking to do that. Run the inlet and out let down the out side of the internal box. I don't need the spay bar as the internal gives me enough disturbance.

1 more thing did you or do you know if uv sterilisers are worth it?

Thanks you've been helpful.

Did buy one years ago but never ran it, personally I have quite heavily planted tanks, i dont even use carbon in my filters and never had any problems.  Not priced a UV sytem up for quite some time but if you can get one cheap enough then Im sure it wont do any harm.

Come to think of it I did have an external filter with a built in UV which I used onthe 190 trigon, not sure if it was just a bit of a gimmick though as the bulb was small and water would have had minimal contact with it

I just ordered 2000l/h with built in uv, comes tomorrow, was £85 so will post pics and stuff tomorrow . Hopefully does what it says on the tin
Only warrie is if it fits in the unit lol

I have just bought a juwel 180 tank and this came with an external filter setup. Heres a few pics.
