I am hoping to add a substate fertiliser so that i can add plants but my aquarium is already running what is the easiest way without causing too much mess?

best way would be to put the fish in a big bucket, put the heater and filter on that, then drain the tank, take out all the substrate, then put in the fertiliser then cap it with your substrate, other than that the only thing you can do is add root tabs.

Is there no other way? I have a 350 litre tank! It is a corner tank too so I can't even reach the back with a net!

not unless you use a stand alone substrate like eco complete, thats pretty much the only one as the other standalone substrates have ammonia spikes and stuff associated with them when they first go in, if you get eco complete (which is gonna be expensive for a tank that size!) then you would just remove the substrate in the tank very carefully then put in the eco complete in handfuls, if you not willing to rip it all out id say go for root tabs, but it really makes a difference having a propper substrate, changing the substrate in a 350 litre may sound like a lot, but if the bucket is big enough and filtered and heated the fish can stay in it for 2 days or more! so it gives you plenty of time, also just use a small step ladder if you cant reach the back, and theres always the option of getting inside the tank ;) hehehehe, its really worth it in the end though, its just a lot of effort.

I think its a Tom Barr idea but you can get some plant substrate and put it in ice cubes and then shove it under the gravel. Otherwise JBL root balls or something similar if you dont want to remove all the fish, water etc.
