Hi,
Last week i lost my brillant Snowball plec which had been living very well in my 240l community tank.
No other fish have suffered any kind of illness.
Went into my LFS nd they are thinking it was maybe a bacterial infection which was picked up through the gravel.
I gravel vac weekly, and change 25 to 30% water.
Water stats are as follows
PH 7.0
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20
So nothing untoward there with the water.
About 50% of the substrate is planted so i only gravel vac betwwen the plants, filtration is an eheim 2026, also inject co2.
The inlet of the filter is in one corner of the tank, and the outlet is at the opposite end of the tank via a dennerle flipper, the co2 tube also conects to the flipper.
So i am thinking about adding another filter (Teratec 700) and maybe this will stop any so called dead spots, with the inlets at opposite ends of the tank, could i connect the outlets to one spraybar running along the full length at the back of the tank? I would custom make the spray bar if needed too. At this point i wouuld also add an external reactor.
My LFS thinks they will have some more snowball plecs in a couple of weeks, so thinking of getting another, but although i have no quarantine tank at the moment set up am thinking if i get one maybe set one up. I do have a spare one foot square, by one foot high tank if that would be any good, what filters do you all use on your quarantine tanks? and how do you make sure the tank does not cycle?
Any thoughts on any of the above points will be greatly received.
