Adding Ammonia

I added at least 10 ml of ammonia.

I have a 36 gallon tank and my test kit is only reading 1 ppm.

I mixed up my tank and waited a bit before testing. Should I add more or did I add too much already?

I only thought you were susposed to add a few drops per 5 gallons. Any help will be appriciated.

I was using that as my referance originally. I want to get it to 5ppm, but I was just making sure that I'm not adding too much or doing something wrong before I add anymore.

Go ahead and add more. If you put in 10ml and raise it to 1 ppm, go ahead and add about 30ml more. That should put you at about 4 ppm but will give you a little room to spare if it's a little much. If byt chance you raise it high enough it's off the chart, just do a 15% to 25% water change to lower it back down to where you can tell the actual reading

Do you know the concentration of ammonia in your bottle? I'm just asking out of interest, since rdd1952 has offered all the advice you actually need!
