Adding A Small Wood Root To My 34 Litre Tank?

would adding a piece of root to my 34 litre tank change the colour or put some chemical in the water? ive got a 3 phase filtration cycle, carbon pellets then sponge and ceramic discs! i just need more objects to keep my two male gourami's from attacking each other all the time (the pet shop wont take one back and rekon they'll get over it, i hope they do!!)

I have you tried trading one at a fish store owned by individual?
If the fighting gets bad, could you put a divider in the tank? Have seen a divider made with plastic cross stictch material. Are there any other fish in the tank? Sometimes the addition of school fish will distract them. They are probably fighting to determine territory. Is it possible to make a cave on both sides of the tank for each fish?

What type of gourami are they? And is a 34 liter tank about 10US Gallons? I would think most gourami would be too big for that size tank, specially two males fighting for territory... My 55 gallon wasn't enough for this type of problem. A divider works best. You can buy one at a LFS.

yeh a cave seems like a good idea, my LFS wont take it back due to quarritine issues, there dwarf gouramis ones a pearl (i tihnk) and the other is a flame, ive also got two guppies and a platy, an thinkin maybe addin some baloon molly's or something an some shrimp but need more plants first. an yeh its bout 10 Galleons heres some photos:
