I was thinking of adding a live plant in Pebbles' tank here is a picture of his tank which comes with a light as an separate accesory

so is it a good Idea folks

it wouldnt hurt depending on what kind of plant it was. I mean the plant shouldnt hurt the fish at all but with such a small tank it is going to hard to do some aquatic plants as some need special lighting and what not. If your going to do it i would research plants that would be ok with little to no light.

I treid real plants and gave up on em so added silk plants. Less maintenance and i just rinse them when i change ramjet and Shimmers water so they dont build up algea or anything. I would be warey of what to put in there as it is a small space.

I suppose you could add a real hardy plant in there like an amazon sword plant, but they are BIG & you'd probably need to do a bit of pruning. No need for extra lighting & long as it got something. As long as you use root tabs and / or dosed with TPN+ it shouldn't die immediately....

What concerns me more is that I can't see a filter or heater of any sort. Which are needed despite common myth. A bigger tank would also be better, which judging by the picture you also have room for.

But yes, real plants are a very good idea. They help use up a little Nitrate, give out oxygen and look far better than real ones. Elodia is an easy plant to grow, Java moss also does ok in low/stock lighting, but you will need to tie it down onto a rock or some wood. Java fern requires the same treatment. Moss balls are also really nice and will do fine in there. You can buy packs of 5 on Ebay for not too much money.

Crikey, she's right you know!

a 2-5 gallon tank with a heater and filter and a few soft silk plants or some moss balls would give your betta a much longer and healthier life.

I just got some moss balls for my tank and the next tank I set up for my sister they are adorable.

What light does the tank actually come with? If it's a little LED thing it may not work for well for plants and they could just die.

Something like Anubias would be good - very hardy - and can survive being in the shade for a long, long time. As long as your OK with the knowledge that it would pretty much just be very slowly dying and not helping the water at all. Wouldn't do much harm either though, unless you left it so long it got covered with mould ad started polluting the water.

I would generally agree with everyone else on the tank as a whole though.
