Adding A New Filter

I have a Juwel 180 tank with a internal filter. I have just bought a tetratec 1200 external filter. How do i go about cycling the new filter? I know the new filter is to powerful for the tank , so i will turn the flow down, the reason is i will upgrade at some point to a bigger tank and dont want to buy another filter.

O.K so do i need to turn the new filter down when running the two together? if so how much.

OR do i take the bacteria media out of the old filter and put it in the new one?

Ideas please.

Personly id run them both but turn the external one right down
